At a joint press conference involving Utah law enforcement, the Utah Governor, and the FBI, Utah Governor Spencer Cox disclosed details about messages discovered on the shooter’s bullet casings. The information included multiple findings beyond initial reports.
On September 11th, a family member of Tyler Robinson contacted a friend, who relayed concerns to the Washington County Sheriff’s Office about Robinson allegedly confessing to involvement in an incident. This led to investigations by Utah County authorities and UVU campus officials. The FBI was also informed. Additional surveillance footage from UVU revealed Robinson arriving on campus on September 10th in a gray Dodge Challenger, wearing specific clothing consistent with later sightings.
A family member confirmed Robinson had become increasingly political, discussing opposition to Charlie Kirk’s planned appearance at UVU. Investigators identified Robinson’s roommate, who shared messages from a Discord account linked to the shooter. These included references to retrieving a rifle, leaving it in a bush, and details about a scope and a unique rifle.
A bolt-action Mauser 98 rifle, wrapped in a dark towel, was found near UVU campus. Casings recovered with the weapon bore engravings such as “Notices, bulges,” “WHAT’S THIS?”, and “Hey, fascist!” Other messages included “Oh, bella ciao” and a homophobic slur. The shooter’s intent and rhetoric remain under scrutiny.
