Utah Governor Spencer Cox revealed critical details about Tyler Robinson, the suspect in the Charlie Kirk shooting, during a press conference, shedding light on his alleged actions and connections. Investigators confirmed that Robinson’s roommate played a pivotal role in the investigation after sharing screenshots of a Discord conversation where Robinson allegedly discussed the attack.
The chat reportedly included messages from Robinson referencing retrieving a rifle from a “drop site,” leaving it wrapped in a towel, and acknowledging the gun’s unique scope and markings—implications that could link him to the crime. The roommate, who initially dismissed the exchange as a joke, later cooperated with authorities, allowing investigators to capture images of the messages.
Robinson, 22, was not a student at Utah Valley University (UVU), according to Cox, despite earlier speculation about his presence on campus. Investigators identified him through surveillance footage showing him arriving on UVU’s grounds in a gray Dodge Challenger on September 10. His clothing matched images captured during the investigation.
A family member of Robinson disclosed that he had grown increasingly political and expressed disdain for Charlie Kirk, whom he labeled as “full of hate.” Additionally, investigators found a Mauser model 98 bolt-action rifle wrapped in a dark towel near UVU’s campus, along with bullet casings engraved with provocative messages, including “Hey, fascist!” and “If you read this, you are gay LMAO.”
The case continues to unfold as authorities piece together Robinson’s movements and communications.
