Uber Technologies announced a pilot program to introduce drone-based food deliveries in select U.S. markets by year’s end. The initiative involves a partnership with Flytrex, an autonomous drone delivery system, to integrate aerial logistics into Uber Eats’ existing delivery network.

In a press release, Uber described the collaboration as a “major step forward in the future of autonomous logistics.” The service will combine Flytrex’s FAA-approved drone technology—already used to deliver over 200,000 meals—with Uber’s platform and expertise. Mario Nawfal, a company representative, highlighted that the expansion includes drones alongside cars, bikes, sidewalk robots, and helicopters.

Uber also revealed its first investment in drone delivery technology through Flytrex, aiming to accelerate development. Sarfraz Maredia, President of Autonomous Mobility and Delivery at Uber, emphasized the potential of autonomous systems to “reshape how food and essentials move through cities.” Noam Bardin, Executive Chairman of Flytrex, called drones the “future of food delivery,” citing their speed and affordability.

The move comes as competitors like DoorDash and Chipotle explore similar drone initiatives in Texas. DoorDash partnered with Flytrex earlier this year, while Chipotle piloted Zipline’s technology for deliveries in Dallas.
