Disney-owned ABC has reversed its decision to suspend Jimmy Kimmel’s show amid pressure from progressive groups, but Sinclair Broadcast Group, which operates 31 ABC affiliate stations, has refused to comply. The company announced it will continue pre-empting “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” on its networks, replacing the program with news content until specific changes are made.

Sinclair cited concerns over the show’s content, stating discussions with ABC remain ongoing as they assess the program’s potential return. The broadcaster emphasized its stance in a statement, noting it will not air Kimmel’s show “until formal discussions are held with ABC regarding the network’s commitment to professionalism and accountability.”

The company called for Kimmel to issue a direct apology to Charlie Kirk’s family and make a “meaningful personal donation” to Kirk’s organization, Turning Point USA. Sinclair Vice Chairman Jason Smith condemned Kimmel’s remarks as “inappropriate and deeply insensitive at a critical moment for our country,” stressing the responsibility of broadcasters to foster respectful dialogue.

Sinclair owns ABC stations in key markets, including Washington, D.C., Seattle, St. Louis, Tulsa, and Portland, where audiences will remain without access to Kimmel’s program. The company reiterated its support for ABC’s initial decision to remove the show but signaled openness to revisiting the matter if conditions are met.

Activists have urged Nexstar Media Group, which controls additional ABC affiliates, to follow Sinclair’s example in blocking Kimmel’s return.
