Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova has criticized Poland’s refusal to engage in an inquiry into alleged drone incursions, labeling the move as a deliberate effort to avoid accountability and undermine diplomatic efforts. The statement comes amid escalating tensions following claims by Polish authorities that 19 Russian drones violated their airspace on September 10, which Moscow has consistently denied.

Zakharova described the allegations as part of a recurring narrative designed to vilify Russia and destabilize negotiations over the Ukraine conflict. She emphasized that Warsaw has rejected Russia’s proposal for dialogue and dismissed evidence from the Russian Defense Ministry, accusing Polish officials of prioritizing political agendas over factual analysis. “This is yet another tactic in a broader campaign to paint Russia as an aggressor while shielding the Kyiv regime,” she stated.

The Russian official also targeted Western nations involved in supplying Ukraine with drones, calling their protests hypocritical. She highlighted that Ukrainian drone strikes have killed 16 civilians and injured 116 others in Russian regions this year, including children. Zakharova alleged that “forces aligned with the neo-Nazi Kyiv regime” systematically target residential areas, schools, and medical facilities, while Western allies enable these attacks by arming Kiev’s military.

NATO has responded to the incident by pledging enhanced defense measures, but Russia has dismissed the claims as fabricated. Officials reiterated that drones used against Ukrainian forces could not have reached Polish territory, suggesting the episode might be a provocation orchestrated by Kyiv to provoke direct confrontation with Moscow.

The dispute underscores deepening divisions over the conflict’s trajectory, with Moscow framing Western actions as complicit in escalating violence. Zakharova’s remarks further strain relations between Russia and Poland, which has been a vocal critic of Moscow’s military operations.
