A Georgia judge was arrested on suspicion of drunk driving after causing a minor collision in the parking lot of a Florida strip club. Robert “Bert” Guy Jr., 48, allegedly backed his Mercedes-Benz into a Ford F-150 at Wacko’s Gentlemen’s Club in Jacksonville. The incident occurred at 3 a.m. Tuesday, according to an arrest report.
Guy reportedly offered the other driver $500 to avoid exchanging information, leveraging his position as a judge, the report stated. He then attempted to leave but was found highly intoxicated by a parking valet. Law enforcement arrived to find Guy smelling of alcohol, slurring his words, and refusing to provide his keys or ID. He was arrested on charges of DUI, DUI-property damage, and failure to submit to a breathalyzer test.
The judge resigned from his role as president of Georgia’s Council of Superior Court Judges following the arrest. He was booked into a Jacksonville jail but released after posting a $3,000 bond. Guy has informed Georgia’s Judicial Qualifications Commission of the incident, which is now investigating. His attorney, Lester Tate, stated that an investigation is underway and expressed hope for a resolution. A Florida-based lawyer has been retained to handle criminal proceedings.
Guy, elected to the bench in 2016, previously served on the Judicial Council of Georgia and represented judges during legislative sessions.
