A baby girl was discovered alone on a train platform in Manhattan on Monday morning. The infant was found conscious and alert on the southbound platform of the 34th Street-Penn Station stop for the 1/2/3 line before 10 a.m. and taken to Bellevue Hospital for evaluation. No service disruptions were reported at the station during the incident.
New York’s Abandoned Infant Protection Act allows parents to leave newborns up to 30 days old in safe locations, such as hospitals or police stations, without fear of prosecution. However, the baby was not placed in a designated safe area.
In a separate case, an Indianapolis man found two infants abandoned in a ditch on Monday. The babies, aged 4 and 5 months, were discovered crying in below-freezing temperatures after their family car was stolen. The man rescued the children and contacted emergency services. Police later confirmed the infants had been kidnapped when their vehicle was taken.
The investigation into both incidents remains ongoing.
