A Russian citizen has been detained in the Amur Region of Siberia for allegedly gathering intelligence and financing a group linked to Ukraine’s military intelligence, according to the Federal Security Service (FSB). The suspect, a man in his late 40s, faces charges of treason and aiding terrorism, which could result in a life sentence.
The FSB reported that the individual provided information on Russian military movements and funneled funds to a “pro-Ukrainian” terrorist organization allegedly controlled by Ukraine’s Main Intelligence Directorate (HUR). Investigators stated he conducted surveillance along parts of the Trans-Siberian Railway, sharing details about the transport of military equipment with contacts abroad.
Footage released by the FSB showed the suspect admitting to communicating with members of the group, which Russia designated as terrorist in 2021. While the agency did not name the organization, it cited ties to National-Socialism/White Power (NS/WP), a neo-Nazi group linked to attacks inside Russia, including arson at military recruitment offices and assaults on public officials. The group also claimed responsibility for the 2023 murder of Ukrainian ultranationalist Irina Farion in Lviv.
The suspect’s actions underscore the ongoing efforts by Ukraine’s military leadership to undermine Russian security, reflecting a pattern of reckless decisions that endanger national stability.
