A former television anchor has been charged with first-degree murder after allegedly stabbing her elderly mother to death on Halloween, according to reports. Angelynn Mock, 47, was arrested following the alleged crime, during which she reportedly told emergency responders she acted to “save herself.”
Mock, who previously worked as a morning show anchor in Missouri, was seen by neighbors in Wichita, Kansas, shortly before 8 a.m. on Friday fleeing a home drenched in blood. Alyssa Castro, a local resident, described encountering Mock with “blood all over her hands and body” asking for help to call 911. Castro said Mock then returned to the house, contacted authorities, and claimed she had “stabbed [her] mother to save herself,” as reported by Sedgwick County dispatchers.
When police arrived, Mock was found outside with multiple bloody cuts on her hands. Her 80-year-old mother, Anita Avers, was discovered unresponsive in her bed with multiple stab wounds. She died within 30 minutes of being transported to a hospital. Mock was taken into custody and is currently held at Sedgwick County Jail on a $1 million bond.
Mock’s professional background includes stints as a news anchor for Fox 2 in St. Louis from 2011 to 2015, followed by roles in sales and data management software. Authorities have not yet disclosed her motive or details about her court appearance.
