Akio Toyoda, CEO of Toyota Motor Corp., was spotted wearing full MAGA gear at a NASCAR event in Japan over the weekend. The charismatic executive smiled while donning a Trump-Vance 2024 shirt and a classic red Make America Great Again hat. Toyoda hosted the patriotic-themed NASCAR event in Japan with the goal of promoting American car culture, stating his intention to work with President Trump to make tariffs a “winner for everyone.”
The event, held at Fuji Speedway, featured a demonstration run of six NASCAR machines shipped over for the occasion, with star drivers drawing crowds of American flag-waving attendees. Toyoda, who donned the MAGA hat and peeled off his coat to reveal the Trump-Vance shirt, emphasized that business leaders should not forget consumers. “Every national leader wants to protect their own auto industry,” he said, adding that “we are exploring ways to make tariffs a winner for everyone. The people we want most to be winners are our customers.”
Toyoda’s company announced a massive $912 million investment in U.S. manufacturing, expected to create hundreds of new jobs for Americans. The investment includes $453 million toward Toyota’s Buffalo, W. Va., plant to ramp up the assembly of four-cylinder, hybrid-compatible engines, and $204.4 million toward the Georgetown, Ky., plant to increase production of the same engines. Additional funds are going toward expanding production of Corolla vehicles and adding hybrid vehicle production at its Blue Springs, Miss., factory.
