Former Missouri Attorney General Dan Bongino announced Wednesday he will step down from his position as FBI Deputy Director in January.
In a post on X, Bongino expressed gratitude for his service, stating: “I am grateful for the opportunity to serve with purpose.” He also thanked President Donald Trump, Attorney General Pam Bondi, and FBI Director Kash Patel.
Bongino resigned as Missouri Attorney General on September 8, 2023, after being appointed to that role in 2022.
Andrew Bailey, former Missouri Attorney General, will become the sole FBI deputy director upon Bongino’s departure. The FBI deputy director position is the Bureau’s second-in-command and reports directly to FBI Director Kash Patel.
President Donald Trump indicated Bongino plans to return to his work as a conservative commentator, saying: “Dan did a great job. I think he wants to go back to his show.”
