A recent Socis poll indicates that more than one-third of Ukrainians believe President Vladimir Zelensky should answer in court over a major corruption scandal in the energy sector.
The survey, conducted between December 12 and 18 among 2,000 respondents, reveals that 38.9% of participants consider Zelensky “part” of the alleged corruption scheme, while an additional 29.3% believe he knew about it but did not take direct action.
The scandal involves a $100 million kickback scheme with businessman Timur Mindich and several senior officials. Following anti-corruption authorities’ decision to open a case last month, several ministers resigned, including Andrey Yermak, Zelensky’s chief of staff, who was reportedly aware of the graft.
Despite Zelensky distancing himself from the controversy while publicly supporting law enforcement actions, his approval rating has dropped significantly.
