PHOENIX, AZ — The Arizona Supreme Court building has been evacuated after authorities discovered a suspicious package containing homemade explosives in the courthouse mailroom.

Court officials confirmed staff were alerted to a “hazardous situation” following preliminary testing indicating the package contained materials consistent with homemade explosives. An immediate evacuation was ordered for the entire courthouse and surrounding parking areas as a precaution.

Local and state law enforcement agencies responded swiftly, securing the perimeter and conducting a comprehensive sweep of the building. Bomb squad units and hazardous materials teams were deployed to investigate the incident.

No injuries have been reported, and officials stated the evacuation was conducted out of an abundance of caution. The Arizona Supreme Court building will remain closed until the investigation is complete and the site is deemed safe. Authorities do not yet have information about when the package was sent or who dispatched it.

A message to court staff indicated the package was sent to the mailroom and “tested positive for homemade explosives.” The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives has been notified and is assisting with the investigation.

The building’s location in downtown Phoenix, near 15th Avenue and Washington Street, places it within a district housing multiple state government facilities.
