The Department of Justice has filed a subpoena demanding the names and contact information of every election worker involved in Georgia’s 2020 presidential election, as part of an expanded investigation into the race.

According to legal filings, the federal government sought details of Fulton County Board of Registration and Elections staff members and volunteers who assisted during the 2020 campaign. The grand jury subpoena, filed in April, was intended to compel the county board to release the requested information.

Fulton County Chairman Robb Pitts condemned the move, stating: “The federal government once again is attempting to misuse criminal process.” He added that the action constitutes “outrageous federal overreach designed to intimidate and chill participation in elections.”

The county board has filed a motion with the court to quash the subpoena, arguing it is part of the Justice Department’s “latest effort to target and harass the President’s perceived political enemies — this time election officials, poll workers, and volunteers in Fulton County whom Donald Trump continues to disparage as he perpetuates his false claim that they ‘stole’ the 2020 election.”

This subpoena follows months of federal scrutiny in Fulton County. Last January, FBI agents raided an election warehouse and seized physical ballots and digital records during a criminal investigation into alleged voting irregularities.

Unsealed court documents reveal the FBI’s investigation — which was initially sparked by a referral from the presidentially appointed Director of Election Security and Integrity — focuses on potential violations of federal laws related to election records retention and vote-count integrity. The probe centers around discrepancies involving 528,777 ballots in Georgia’s most populous county, with investigators scrutinizing whether “intentional acts” led to inconsistencies.

Among the issues examined are batches of “pristine” absentee ballots that showed no signs of being folded or creased — a requirement for standard mailing envelopes. The FBI has interviewed numerous individuals who have questioned the legitimacy of the 2020 election, though investigations by the Georgia Secretary of State’s Office and multiple lawsuits have found no evidence of intentional wrongdoing.
