President Trump will convene a rare Cabinet meeting at Camp David on Wednesday as negotiations with Iran reach a critical juncture amid military strikes and a fraying ceasefire.
All cabinet members are expected to attend the gathering, including outgoing Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard. The administration has stated that the session will focus on recent successes in economic policy, small business initiatives, and efforts by the Task Force to Eliminate Fraud, as well as foreign policy updates.
The meeting follows the United States conducting strikes late Monday on Iranian missile sites and vessels in southern Iran, which U.S. Central Command described as self-defense actions against assets allegedly laying mines. Iran has labeled these actions a “grave violation” of the fragile ceasefire.
Additionally, Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei has threatened American military bases throughout the Middle East. The administration is also working to highlight affordability and other issues of concern to voters ahead of the November midterm elections.
The location of the Camp David meeting is weather-dependent; if conditions are unfavorable, the gathering may be relocated. Senator Rubio noted that while there is strong alignment on a preliminary draft of the Iran agreement, finalizing details could take several days, even down to disagreements over specific words or phrases.
Trump has stated that negotiations with Iran are proceeding “nicely,” though he previously emphasized his demand for a “good deal or no deal.”
