Ken McFeeters, an insurance agent running against Sen. Tommy Tuberville (R-AL) for Alabama governor, has filed a challenge asserting Tuberville does not reside in the state. According to McFeeters, Tuberville lives in Santa Rosa Beach, Florida, rather than Alabama. “If you look at it, he does not live in Alabama. And we the people of Alabama, we’re not stupid,” McFeeters stated.

The Alabama Republican Party dismissed McFeeters’ challenge without investigation, claiming it had no legal merit. Tuberville’s campaign responded that his team provided “definitive proof” of continuous residency in Alabama since 2019, noting he “moved back home to Alabama and has held a driver’s license, voted, and lived in Auburn” after his coaching career ended.

McFeeters published a detailed rebuttal criticizing the party’s decision, arguing it creates a dangerous precedent: “The practical effect of this ruling is that if a candidate is wealthy enough to purchase a small property and declare it a ‘domicile of convenience,’ the residency requirements of the Alabama Constitution can simply be ignored.” He warned this allows out-of-state elites to bypass state residency laws by buying homes, claiming eligibility while living elsewhere.

McFeeters stated he is pursuing legal action to compel Tuberville to release documentation—including travel records, financial statements, and property tax filings—to verify his seven-year residency in Alabama. He emphasized that Tuberville’s beach home in Walton County, Florida, with an estimated value of $5.5 million, contradicts claims of permanent Alabama domicile.

Tuberville dismissed the challenge on Monday, calling it “what a joke.”
