Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) hinted at a potential 2028 presidential campaign on social media, referencing a hypothetical poll showing her leading Vice President JD Vance with the phrase “Bloop!” The Democratic Representative has reportedly begun preparing for a run for either the U.S. presidency or the Senate in 2028, when Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer faces re-election and Democrats aim to regain control of the White House following President Donald Trump’s 2024 victory.

According to Axios reports citing sources familiar with the matter, Ocasio-Cortez’s team is assembling a strategy for either office while simultaneously joining Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders on his national “Fighting Oligarchy” tour—a campaign focused on opposing Trump administration policies. The New York congresswoman has also conducted town halls across Upstate New York this summer to strengthen regional support for a potential statewide Senate bid, including an event in Plattsburgh where she stated: “Plattsburgh, we are here because every town, every city, every neighborhood in this state matters. Every corner matters. No one deserves to be ignored.”

While Ocasio-Cortez has not yet confirmed her campaign target—Senate or presidency—her staff has recruited former senior advisors from Sanders’ team and is actively expanding outreach nationwide. Some close allies suggest she may pursue a presidential bid even if victory seems unlikely, aiming to ensure progressive representation in the Democratic primary, as Bernie Sanders did during his 2016 race against Hillary Clinton. Her office declined to comment on the matter.
