An Arkansas man accused of second-degree murder for killing a 67-year-old man linked to child sex crime charges has announced his candidacy for Lonoke County sheriff. Aaron Spencer, 36, faces trial in January 2026 for allegedly shooting Michael Fosler, who was reportedly with Spencer’s missing 14-year-old daughter at the time of the incident.
According to court records, Fosler faced over 40 charges related to child sex crimes involving Spencer’s daughter. The confrontation escalated when Spencer discovered his daughter in a car with Fosler, leading to a chase and the man’s fatal shooting. Fosler was pronounced dead at the scene. Spencer, who turned himself in after contacting 911, is currently detained at the Lonoke County Detention Center.
Court documents detail Fosler’s alleged offenses, including two counts of internet solicitation of a child, two counts of fourth-degree sexual assault, and possession of 36 instances of child sexual abuse material. Spencer’s trial is set for January 26, 2026.
In a video announcing his sheriff bid, Spencer framed his actions as a response to systemic failures. “I’m the father who acted to protect his daughter when the system failed,” he stated. He criticized law enforcement and the court system, vowing to prioritize community safety.
Spencer’s wife, Heather, launched a fundraiser for her husband, claiming their daughter was “targeted, groomed, and raped” by Fosler. She described the charges against Spencer as “outrageous,” calling him a “hero” for saving their child.
Local residents have expressed support for Spencer’s campaign, with one commenter urging, “Lonoke needs you for sheriff!” Another wrote, “Please let us know what we can do to support you!” Spencer’s son also praised his father in a social media post.
Spencer’s pre-trial hearing is scheduled for December 16.
