A Seattle man has been arrested and charged with possessing over 6,000 images depicting child sexual abuse after authorities discovered them on his computer. Rick Allen Jones, 51, of Seattle, was detained in January 2023 following an investigation that led to the seizure of the extensive collection.
Jones worked as an engineer at the home of Bill Gates and Melinda Gates in Medina, Washington until late 2014. According to court documents, he was charged with possession of child pornography after police searched his residence and found thousands of images of children engaged in sexual abuse. Prosecutors indicated that Jones had shared these images using a Gmail account.
The arrest follows an investigation that began in 2013 when authorities tracked down Jones through a single image posted online. Police identified him at his workplace on the Gates’ $147 million waterfront estate in Medina, Washington. During interviews at the estate’s security office, police discovered the images were stored on Jones’ personal computer.
Additionally, a report from 2014 described Bill Gates maintaining a tradition with his former girlfriend Ann Winblad to spend one weekend each year at her beach cottage in North Carolina. The arrangement reportedly continued after their marriage and was characterized as a platonic activity involving discussions of biotechnology and playing putt-putt.
