A person of interest has been taken into custody for the mass shooting at Brown University that occurred on Saturday, which killed two students and injured multiple others. Police confirmed the university lockdown has been lifted and no additional suspects are being sought.

The incident appears to have involved a targeted attack on a specific classroom where students were studying for an economics exam. According to reports, the shooter “yelled something” before opening fire with a handgun in an unlocked 7-story physics and engineering building.

Students have been dismissed from winter break, and all final exams have been canceled as a result of the incident. The person of interest was apprehended early Sunday at a hotel in Coventry, Rhode Island, where law enforcement sources reported he was in possession of two firearms.

A law enforcement source indicated that the shooter targeted the classroom of Professor Rachel Friedberg, who teaches Judaic Studies and Economics. The source also stated that the individual reportedly yelled “Allahu Akbar” before the attack. Authorities have not confirmed the suspect’s identity or any connection to specific ideologies.
