Police have confirmed that the suspected Brown University shooter, who was found dead in a Salem, New Hampshire storage unit after reportedly committing suicide, is 48-year-old Claudio Neves-Valente.
Neves-Valente, a Portuguese national and not a U.S. citizen, was identified by law enforcement as the individual responsible for both the mass shooting at Brown University and the murder of MIT professor Nuno F.G. Loureiro.
According to university officials, Neves-Valente attended Brown University from 2000 to 2001, pursuing a graduate program in physics. The university president stated that it is safe to assume the suspect spent significant time in the building where the shooting occurred during his student years.
Federal authorities confirmed that Neves-Valente has died and there is no longer a public threat from this individual. Investigators believe the two shootings were linked, though the suspect’s motive remains under review.
