California Gov. Gavin Newsom has confirmed he is exploring a 2028 presidential campaign, according to an interview with CBS. During a pre-taped segment on “CBS News Sunday Morning,” Newsom addressed questions about his potential run, stating, “I’d be lying otherwise… I’m not— I can’t do that.”

Recent months have seen Newsom engage in political activities, including visits to key early states and hosting a podcast where he sharpened debate skills against conservative guests. He has also utilized social media accounts to respond with provocative content to critics.

Newsom is ineligible for a third term as California governor due to term limits. Meanwhile, new surveys indicate his support among Democrats and independents has declined, placing him behind former Vice President Kamala Harris in early polling for the 2028 Democratic nomination.
