Utah Governor Spencer Cox revealed conflicting details about Tyler Robinson, the suspected shooter in the attack on Charlie Kirk at Utah Valley University, during a press conference. Officials initially suggested Robinson was a student at UVU, citing a photo showing him in what appeared to be a dorm room. However, Cox later clarified that Robinson did not attend UVU and instead lived with his parents in Washington County.

Investigations uncovered that Robinson had communicated with his roommate via Discord about the shooting, including discussions about retrieving a rifle from a “drop site” and acknowledging the weapon’s unique scope. The roommate reportedly treated the messages as jokes, failing to recognize their severity.

A family member of Robinson alerted authorities after he allegedly confessed to involvement in the incident. Surveillance footage showed Robinson arriving on campus in a gray Dodge Challenger on September 10th, wearing clothing consistent with images captured by UVU cameras. Investigators also confirmed he owned the vehicle and had expressed political frustrations about Kirk during a family dinner prior to the attack.

The rifle used in the shooting was recovered wrapped in a dark towel near the university, featuring a scope and engraved bullet casings with provocative messages, including references to “fascist,” “bella ciao,” and homophobic slurs. Authorities continue to investigate the motive and timeline surrounding the incident.
