Two Delta regional jets collided while taxing at LaGuardia Airport in New York City Wednesday evening. The incident occurred shortly before 10 p.m. local time, according to reports.
A CBS News producer on board one of the aircraft stated that the planes were taxiing to the gate after landing when one was struck by another Delta regional jet. Air Traffic Control audio indicated the right wing of one plane collided with the nose of the other. Pilots reported damage to their windshield and at least one injured individual.
A LaGuardia Airport spokesperson confirmed a single person onboard sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to an area hospital as a precaution. Passengers were deplaned on the taxiway and transferred via buses back to Terminal C, while those on departing flights were rebooked to another flight. The minor incident had no further impact on airport operations.
Photographs from the scene showed significant damage to at least one aircraft’s nose, with crew members and emergency personnel seen on the tarmac following the collision.
