A disturbing revelation has emerged regarding Jay Jones, the Democratic Party’s nominee for Virginia Attorney General, whose past text messages reveal graphic and violent rhetoric targeting political opponents.

Documents obtained from 2022 show Jones, a former state legislator, engaging in explicit conversations with a colleague about harming Todd Gilbert, then-GOP House Speaker, and his family. In one exchange, Jones jokingly suggested shooting Gilbert and even referenced “pissing on their graves” during funerals. He also expressed a chilling preference for killing Gilbert over “two dictators,” according to an internal report.

The messages, shared with a former colleague, Carrie Coyner, sparked immediate condemnation. Coyner, a Republican delegate, stated the remarks were “disgusting and unbecoming of any public official” and confirmed she forwarded screenshots to Gilbert. She added she has not spoken to Jones since the incident.

Jones later issued a vague apology, expressing regret for his words but avoiding direct accountability. His response drew further criticism, with calls for him to withdraw from the race. Republican Governor candidate Winsome Earle-Sears publicly criticized the lack of support from Democratic leaders, while the Vice President urged officials to demand Jones’s exit.

The controversy has intensified as Virginia voters prepare for an upcoming election, raising questions about Jones’s suitability for public office.
