A Discord spokesperson has refuted allegations that the platform was used to plot a murder, stating there is no evidence linking the suspect, Tyler Robinson, to violent activity on its services. The statement, provided to TMZ, clarified that while an account associated with Robinson was identified during an investigation, no proof of planning or promotion of violence was found.
The spokesperson emphasized that messages cited in recent reports about alleged planning details were not from Discord. Instead, they described communications between Robinson’s roommate and a friend after the incident, where the roommate recounted information from a note left by Robinson elsewhere. Authorities confirmed Robinson had made a “joke” on Discord prior to the event, but investigators also reviewed messages including references to retrieving a rifle and leaving it in a bush, which Discord claims were not part of its platform.
The company’s statement reiterated that the referenced communications appeared to originate from an off-platform note shared with the roommate, not from Discord itself. The case continues to unfold as further details emerge.
