Los Angeles reliever Blake Treinen paid tribute to the late Charlie Kirk during Friday night’s game against the San Francisco Giants by wearing a hat inscribed with Kirk’s name and a cross. The gesture occurred as Treinen entered the ninth inning, drawing attention from fans who noticed the message on his cap.
Kirk, 31, was killed Wednesday at Utah Valley University after being shot during a campus event. He left behind a wife and two children. Tyler Robinson, a 22-year-old Utah resident, was arrested in connection with the killing. Utah Gov. Spencer Cox noted that a family member of Robinson’s shared information about a potential confession with authorities.
Other sports teams also acknowledged Kirk’s passing. The Green Bay Packers observed a moment of silence for him before their game against the Washington Commanders. Kirk, founder of Turning Point USA, was a prominent conservative activist and ally of former President Donald Trump, who condemned his death on social media and announced plans to posthumously award him the Presidential Medal of Freedom.
