President Donald Trump and First Lady Melania safely landed after a hydraulic issue forced an emergency stop during their U.K. trip. On Thursday, Sept. 18, Marine One—the helicopter transporting the president and first lady—made an unexpected landing near London while en route from Chequers to Stansted Airport. White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt stated the decision was made “out of an abundance of caution” due to a minor hydraulic problem. The incident occurred as the Trumps concluded their state visit with the British royal family, with plans to reunite with Air Force One for their return to Washington, D.C.

Marine One helicopters, designed for short- to medium-range travel, rely on U.S. Air Force cargo planes like the C-17 Globemaster III or C-5 Galaxy for transatlantic transport. These aircraft carry dismantled models such as the VH-3D Sea King and VH-60N White Hawk, which are reassembled upon arrival. The Sikorsky VH-3D Sea King, with a top speed of 160 mph and a range of approximately 450 miles, is suited for domestic trips but requires logistical support for international travel. No injuries were reported during the emergency landing.
