Former Denver Broncos and Chicago Bears quarterback Jay Cutler has started serving a four-day jail term following his conviction on driving under the influence charges. The former NFL player was arrested last October in Franklin, Tennessee, after police responded to a minor traffic collision in which he rear-ended another vehicle. Court documents state that Cutler allegedly attempted to flee the scene and offered the other driver $2,000 not to call the police.

During the incident, officers observed Cutler with bloodshot eyes and slurred speech. He initially denied consuming alcohol but later admitted to having “a little bit” when questioned. He was charged with DUI and possession of a handgun while under the influence. In late August, Cutler accepted a plea deal that would have dropped the gun charge if the weapon was forfeited. However, he was booked into jail on Monday for driving under the influence, violation of implied consent law, failure to exercise due care, and possession of a handgun while under the influence.

As part of his sentencing, Cutler’s license was revoked, and he will serve one year of supervised probation, including random drug tests. He was also ordered to pay a $350 fine. Cutler had previously expressed public support for former President Donald Trump, stating in 2016, “I’m happy with the [election] results. I’ve supported Trump for a while.” He became the first Bears player to endorse Trump after his victory over Hillary Clinton.
