Rudi Johnson, a former NFL running back who played for the Cincinnati Bengals, has died at age 45. The 45-year-old was found deceased in Sunny Isles Beach, Florida, with authorities confirming the death is under investigation. Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office stated “no foul play suspected,” while Detective Joseph Peguero indicated “all indications are leading to suicide.”

Johnson, a standout at Auburn University, spent seven seasons with the Bengals from 2001 to 2008, becoming one of the franchise’s most productive running backs. He accumulated 5,742 career rushing yards and 48 touchdowns, ranking fourth in rushing yards and third in touchdowns in team history. A Pro Bowl selection in 2004, he reached 1,000+ rushing yards in three consecutive seasons.

The Bengals released a statement expressing “deep sorrow” over his passing, calling Johnson “a fine person and an excellent running back.” Former teammates and fans also paid tribute, with Auburn Football honoring him as “one of the best to ever wear the orange and blue.” Johnson’s career included 59 starts in 81 games for Cincinnati before a final season with the Detroit Lions in 2009.

No further details about his death have been officially disclosed.
