Hamas has reportedly agreed to release all Israeli hostages under the framework of US President Donald J. Trump’s proposed Gaza peace plan, according to reports. The militant group signaled readiness to enter mediated negotiations to finalize details, as stated by Reuters.
Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu were among the first to endorse the White House’s proposal, which includes demands for Hamas to disarm and relinquish control over Gaza. The plan does not explicitly address a future Palestinian state, a position Netanyahu has previously opposed.
Hamas launched an attack on southern Israel on October 7, 2023, killing 1,200 people and taking over 250 hostages. Israel responded with a military operation in Gaza, resulting in more than 65,000 Palestinian deaths, according to Hamas-run health authorities. Israel disputes the accuracy of these figures.
The plan outlines an immediate ceasefire, hostage exchanges, staged Israeli troop withdrawals, Hamas disarmament, and the establishment of an international-led transitional government in Gaza. Trump warned Hamas to reach an agreement by Sunday evening, threatening severe consequences if terms were not met. The proposal also includes provisions for humanitarian aid, governance reforms, and economic development in Gaza.
Trump’s 20-point plan emphasizes deradicalizing Gaza, rebuilding infrastructure, and ensuring peace through international oversight. It calls for the release of all hostages, prisoner exchanges, and the creation of a temporary governance structure led by an international body. The plan also outlines measures to prevent future threats from Hamas and other factions.
