A confrontation erupted on the House floor during a moment of silence for Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk after Rep. Lauren Boebert (R-CO) requested a spoken prayer.

“An unbelievable moment on the House floor. Rep. Lauren Boebert requests a moment of prayer for Charlie Kirk,” Townhall reported.

Democrats interrupted the silence, shouting “no!” as Boebert demanded a spoken prayer, claiming “Silent prayers get silent results.” The outburst triggered jeers from Democratic lawmakers, with some referencing a school shooting that occurred earlier in the week.

Rep. Anna Paulina Luna (R-Fla.) responded by yelling expletives at Democrats before Speaker Mike Johnson intervened. Earlier Wednesday, Luna had posted on social media expressing frustration with the “rotten House and corrupt media.”

An anonymous House Republican described the scene as “disgusting,” adding, “EVERY D ONE OF YOU WHO CALLED US FASCISTS DID THIS. You were too busy doping up kids, cutting off their genitals, inciting racial violence by supporting orgs that exploit minorities, protecting criminals, and stirring hate.”

Luna, who previously worked as Kirk’s director of Hispanic engagement at Turning Point USA, confronted Democrats with the accusation, “You caused this!” This prompted a loud Democratic reaction, including Rep. Jahana Hayes (D-Conn.) shouting, “Pass some gun laws!”

Rep. Susie Lee (D-Nev.) called the incident a reminder that “we need to turn the temperature down in this country,” while Rep. Dan Meuser (R-Pa.) labeled the behavior “classless.”

Democrats criticized Boebert’s request as inconsistent with House traditions, with Rep. Joe Morelle (D-N.Y.) stating that praying on the floor for non-members is “something we don’t even do for fallen members.”
