Earlier today, ICE agents were forced to open fire after an illegal gang member from El Salvador attempted to run them over with his vehicle. Released footage shows the incident where the man tried to mow down federal officers and ended up being shot.

The video clearly demonstrates that ICE agents acted in self-defense. Carlos Ivan Mendoza Hernandez, who is reportedly in stable condition at Doctors Medical Center, was hospitalized following the confrontation.

Patrick Kolasinski, an immigration attorney representing Mendoza Hernandez’s family, stated the man denies gang affiliation. “The biggest thing the family wants to get out right now is that he is not a gang member,” Kolasinski said. “He is a family man engaged to a U.S. citizen with a 2-year-old U.S. citizen daughter who was on his way to work in the Bay Area.”

The Department of Homeland Security previously indicated Mendoza Hernandez was affiliated with gangs, but his family has consistently denied these allegations.
