Authorities in Las Vegas have arrested a teenage girl after she was accused of stabbing several horses during a barrel racing event.

The teenager was taken into custody following an investigation that revealed she had access to the barn where the animals were injured.

Las Vegas Metropolitan Police responded to a disturbance at the South Point Casino & Hotel early Saturday morning, around 2 a.m., as it hosted the 2026 Official NBHA Las Vegas Super Show. Officers discovered three horses with injuries consistent with being stabbed by a knife.

Investigators determined the teenage competitor had access to the barn where the horses were kept and are suspected of using the knife to inflict multiple wounds on the animals. The injuries were not life-threatening but will require the horses to be out of competition for an extended period. One of the injured horses, Saaul Good (known as Sully), was owned by competitor Hailey Krahenbuhl. Krahenbuhl reported that Sully had been stabbed multiple times and is currently being treated and recovering.

The National Barrel Horse Association released a statement describing the incident as an “isolated event” that occurred during early morning hours on Saturday, May 30, involving the mistreatment of a limited number of horses by an event competitor. The association confirmed the individual involved has been removed from competition and placed under police custody with no ongoing threat.
