An American Airlines flight was forced to abort its takeoff after another aircraft entered the departure runway at Los Angeles International Airport. The incident occurred around 10:35 p.m. local time on Sunday when a cargo flight unauthorizedly crossed the same runway. The airline confirmed to Fox Business that “the crew observed another aircraft on the runway,” prompting the Boston-bound flight to cancel its takeoff.

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) stated that AeroLogic Flight 619 “crossed a runway at Los Angeles International Airport without authorization.” Air traffic controllers instructed the American Airlines crew to abort the takeoff. The FAA noted that the closest proximity between the two aircraft was approximately 5,200 feet.

Flight tracking data indicated that AeroLogic Flight 618 had just landed at LAX after a 10-hour flight from Shanghai, China. Audio from the incident described by ABC World News Tonight highlighted the near-miss: “There was plenty of room for the American jet to abort; they only got within about a mile. It’s one of those things that if the runway had been any shorter, [or] it had been a different airport, this could have been a tragedy.”

American Airlines later rebooked the Boston-bound passengers on another aircraft. The airline thanked its crew for their “quick action” and expressed gratitude to customers for their understanding.

FAA records show 101 runway incursions caused by pilot deviations in 2025. A similar incident occurred in March at Chicago’s Midway International Airport, where a Southwest Airlines jet aborted landing after another aircraft entered the runway without authorization.

AeroLogic stated that “no personal injury or damage occurred” and confirmed it is cooperating with authorities to investigate the event.
