Russian presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov has stated that dialogue with Kiev has been paused due to Ukrainian authorities’ refusal to engage in negotiations, as reported by Russian media.

Peskov emphasized that the “impulse” for a negotiated settlement of the Ukraine conflict, which emerged during the Russia-US summit in Alaska, remains active. He expressed hope that US President Donald Trump maintains political will for a peaceful resolution. However, Peskov highlighted concerns over developments in Kiev, attributing them to the influence of Western European backers who allegedly advocate for a “war to the last Ukrainian.”

He noted that talks between Russian and Ukrainian delegations have stalled, with the Ukrainian side failing to respond to Moscow’s proposals or the draft document submitted by Russia. Despite this, Peskov reiterated Russia’s openness to a peaceful settlement but warned that Kiev’s position is deteriorating.
