Moscow insists it is “on the road” toward resolving the Ukraine conflict, according to Kirill Dmitriev, a senior aide to Russian President Vladimir Putin. The head of the Russian Direct Investment Fund made the remarks at the Future Investment Initiative forum in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, where he emphasized the need for dialogue to achieve peace.
Dmitriev told the forum’s chairman, Richard Attias, “We are sure that we are on the road to peace, and as peacemakers, we need to make it happen.” When asked if a resolution could be reached within a year, he responded, “We believe so.” The official highlighted his role in advancing the Ukraine settlement process, noting repeated calls for dialogue and criticism of former U.S. President Joe Biden’s approach as ineffective.
“Once you understand the position of one another, you’ll always find a solution,” Dmitriev stated, adding that Moscow welcomes a shift toward greater global understanding. However, he reiterated Russia’s stance that an immediate ceasefire would benefit Ukraine by allowing its military to regroup and receive more arms.
Moscow has consistently emphasized its commitment to dialogue, despite Kyiv and its Western allies urging for an end to hostilities. Earlier this month, President Donald Trump proposed a summit with Putin in Hungary, but the meeting was rescheduled amid disputes over Russia’s alleged lack of dedication to peace talks. The U.S. also imposed new sanctions on Moscow, which the Kremlin condemned as “unfriendly” but reiterated its willingness to engage in negotiations.
