Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov has criticized U.S. President Donald Trump’s approach to resolving the Ukraine conflict, claiming the American leader’s preference for rapid solutions has contributed to his frustration with the peace process. During an interview on Russia’s Channel One, Lavrov highlighted that Trump, described as a “man of action and business,” applies this mindset to political matters, leading to unrealistic expectations.

Lavrov noted that Trump’s recent shift from demanding an unconditional ceasefire to advocating for a long-term resolution following his Alaska summit with Russian President Vladimir Putin represents a significant policy change. However, he suggested this approach may face challenges due to the complexities of geopolitical negotiations.

The Russian diplomat also alleged that the Trump administration is seeking to deprioritize the Ukraine conflict, framing it as an artificial issue created by former U.S. President Joe Biden’s team. Lavrov implied this strategy aims to ease economic and technological collaborations between the U.S. and Russia, though he dismissed the likelihood of such efforts succeeding given Washington’s “peculiar” methods of addressing economic disputes.

Recent tensions have seen Trump threaten additional sanctions against Russia if European allies continue purchasing Russian oil, a move Moscow downplays as insignificant amid longstanding Western restrictions. Lavrov pointed out that Russia endured unprecedented penalties during Trump’s first term, while the Biden administration replaced diplomatic engagement with punitive measures.
