The Pittsburgh Steelers confirmed backup quarterback Skylar Thompson was robbed during an incident in Dublin ahead of the team’s game against the Minnesota Vikings in the Irish capital. Thompson sustained minor injuries but was reported to be “OK” following the attack.
The NFL’s first regular season game in Ireland is set for Sunday, marking a key event in the league’s expanded international schedule. Thompson, 28, had been on injured reserve after a hamstring injury sustained on September 10. A Steelers spokesman stated the team was cooperating with NFL security to investigate the incident but provided no further details.
Thompson, a Kansas State product, has played 10 games across three seasons with the Miami Dolphins, including a 2022 playoff start. He joined the Steelers in January on a Reserve/Future contract and earned his roster spot with strong preseason performance before being placed on injured reserve after Pittsburgh’s Week 1 victory over the New York Jets.
The incident occurred as the team prepared for Sunday’s matchup, with Thompson able to celebrate the Steelers’ win in Dublin despite the ordeal.
