Police discovered 81-year-old James Handy unconscious in his front yard with multiple stab wounds to the chest. He was rushed to a hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries.

Authorities have identified Michael Gledhill, 44, as the perpetrator. Gledhill, who is the son of Handy’s former girlfriend, called police immediately after committing the crime to confess.

The attack occurred on Wednesday morning, and it remains unclear what motivated the assailant. Law enforcement officials are investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Handy, whose career spanned over 100 acting credits, was celebrated for his extensive work in film and television, including roles in “Top Gun: Maverick” (where he played a bartender) and the cult classic “Jumanji.”
