A transgender Team USA BMX cyclist has faced backlash after sharing social media posts celebrating the assassination of Charlie Kirk. Chelsea Wolfe, who served as an alternate for the U.S. women’s BMX team at the Tokyo Olympics in 2021, made inflammatory remarks on her Instagram story. One post featured a USA Today article about Kirk’s death with an animated caption reading “We did it!” overlaid on the children’s character Dora the Explorer. Another message displayed a black screen with the text “the ‘find out’ era looks good on him,” while a third included a photo of Wolfe giving a thumbs up alongside a comment dismissing moral responsibility: “Being a Nazi is completely optional btw. He didn’t have to do all that, but he did and now he’s dead.”
Wolfe had previously expressed controversial intentions, including a 2020 Facebook post stating her goal was to “burn the American flag” at the Tokyo Olympics. She later shared an Instagram photo announcing her selection as an alternate for Team USA’s BMX freestyle event, expressing excitement about competing in Tokyo. The athlete’s actions have drawn widespread criticism, with many questioning her eligibility to represent the U.S. in international competitions.
