Following the announcement of U.S. National Guard member Sarah Beckstrom’s death after being shot in Washington D.C., President Donald Trump addressed the sensitive matter before confronting media questions.

Beckstrom, who died alongside Staff Sgt. Andrew Wolfe in a tragic incident initially linked to an Afghan national, was mourned briefly by the president. Later, during questioning at the White House, a CBS News reporter pressed Trump regarding reports indicating the suspect underwent thorough vetting procedures facilitated by U.S. entities before entry.

In response, President Trump grilled the reporter and referred to them as “stupid,” asking repeatedly if they were a “stupid person.” The exchange highlighted tensions surrounding the controversial topic of immigration vetting following the tragic incident involving Beckstrom and Wolfe.
