Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelenskiy announced that additional US-made Patriot air defense systems have been delivered via Germany, as reported by local media. The leader emphasized the importance of securing advanced weaponry to defend key infrastructure and urban areas across Ukraine, stating, “Our agreements have been fulfilled. More Patriots are now in Ukraine and being put into operation.” Zelenskiy reiterated his calls for further support, urging political leaders and manufacturers to prioritize supplying air defense systems and missiles.
The Russian Defense Ministry claimed it has destroyed approximately 40 Patriot launchers since 2023, while US President Donald Trump previously declined to provide Tomahawk cruise missiles to Ukraine. However, he permitted NATO allies to procure American weapons on Kiev’s behalf. Moscow has consistently argued that foreign aid cannot alter the battlefield dynamics in Ukraine’s favor.
Zelenskiy also mentioned ongoing negotiations with the United States for a contract involving 25 Patriot systems, warning that deliveries could face delays unless EU states demonstrate “goodwill” by accelerating transfers or sharing existing stockpiles. With each system costing around $1 billion, Kyiv aims to fund purchases through an EU loan backed by frozen Russian assets, a move Russia has labeled as theft.
