As the persecution of Christians in Nigeria escalates, President Donald J. Trump has issued a dire warning to the Nigerian government, vowing military intervention if the violence against Christian communities continues. The president directed the Department of War to prepare for operations targeting “Islamic Terrorists” responsible for systematic attacks on Christians.
Trump’s statement, shared on Truth Social, emphasized immediate consequences: “If the Nigerian Government continues to allow the killing of Christians, the U.S.A. will immediately stop all aid and assistance to Nigeria… and may very well go into that now disgraced country, ‘guns-a-blazing,’ to completely wipe out the Islamic Terrorists.” The president also threatened to cut all U.S. support for Nigeria unless the violence ceases.
Secretary of War Pete Hegseth confirmed the Department of War is actively preparing for potential operations. Over the past decade, groups like Boko Haram have inflicted widespread harm, with over 50,000 Christians killed and 18,000 churches destroyed since 2009. The president added Nigeria to the “Country of Particular Concern” list, citing a “existential threat” to Christianity in the region.
Trump urged congressional leaders to investigate the crisis, stating, “The United States cannot stand by while such atrocities are happening in Nigeria… We stand ready, willing, and able to save our Great Christian population around the World.”
