Two Boone County deputies were shot Thursday night while executing a warrant at an apartment complex in Walton, Kentucky, according to authorities. The incident occurred around 10 p.m. when the officers arrived at the Towne Creek Crossing Apartments to serve a warrant and encountered gunfire. Both deputies were transported to the University of Cincinnati Medical Center in stable condition, with one undergoing surgery, officials said.
The suspect, a man who barricaded himself inside the residence after the shooting, was confirmed dead by self-inflicted gunshot wound following a drone assessment, authorities revealed. Law enforcement agencies, including SWAT teams, responded to secure the area, while residents in nearby neighborhoods were ordered to shelter in place. No other deputies or civilians were injured, and a criminal investigation remains ongoing.
Boone County Major Philip Ridgell described the situation as “the worst nightmare type of scenario,” emphasizing the volatile nature of the encounter. Updates from the sheriff’s office indicated both deputies’ conditions remained “pretty positive” following the incident.
