After months of President Trump calling Mamdani a Communist and Mamdani calling Trump a fascist, the two came together today in the Oval Office. Some parts were downright surprising, and I’ll get to those in a moment. But never forget, one of President Trump’s trademark moves is shining the spotlight bright on those he doesn’t like or trust. He did it with Fauci and Birx and he’s done it with countless others over the years. So while the friendly meeting may seem a bit surprising, I think it’s classic Trump. Keep your friends close and your enemies closer.

The meeting focused not on places of disagreement, which there are many, but on the shared purpose that both men have in serving New Yorkers. The discussion touched on housing, food, and the price of oil, with Trump emphasizing that lowering prices is good for New York. He also mentioned Walmart’s Thanksgiving numbers, stating they are 25% less than last year.

Mamdani expressed appreciation for Trump’s positions, noting that both leaders are clear about their views. He emphasized the importance of addressing the cost of living crisis for New Yorkers, with one in four living in poverty. The meeting repeatedly discussed how to lift residents out of struggle and deliver a city where they can afford to live.

Trump was asked if he would feel comfortable living in New York City under a Mamdani administration, to which he responded, “Yeah, I would. I really would.” Additionally, Mamdani stated his commitment to rooting out antisemitism across the five boroughs and protecting Jewish New Yorkers.

The dialogue included remarks about transit choices, with Mamdani stating he will use every form of transit, and Trump noting that flying is a quicker option. The conversation also touched on the Middle East, with Mamdani suggesting Lebanon is unresolved after Gaza and Syria.

A montage of the top moments was compiled, highlighting the unique dynamic between the two leaders.
