Former NFL quarterback Mark Sanchez was hospitalized after being stabbed during a violent altercation outside an Indianapolis bar on Saturday. The incident occurred as Sanchez prepared to broadcast the Colts’ game against the Raiders.
Fox Sports confirmed in a statement that Sanchez is “in stable condition” and recovering at a local hospital, expressing gratitude for medical staff and urging privacy for his family. The Indianapolis Metro Police Department described the event as a “physical disturbance” between two men around 12:30 a.m., with one sustaining lacerations and the other stab wounds. Authorities stated the case appears to be an isolated incident, not random violence, and will be forwarded to the Marion County Prosecutor’s Office for further action.
Sanchez was set to participate in Sunday’s game broadcast but has since been replaced. A reported altercation at Loughmiller’s Pub & Eatery involved Sanchez and another individual, with the latter claiming self-defense after allegedly being told to leave and facing aggression from Sanchez. The suspect reportedly stated Sanchez used pepper spray, prompting the stabbing.
Sanchez did not cooperate with responding officers, and his account of events remains undisclosed. A bartender at the venue noted the manager provided first aid to Sanchez, who was found bleeding outside the pub. The incident has shocked local patrons, with one describing the violence as “nuts” and “crazy.”
The New York Jets issued a statement offering support to Sanchez and his family, while no official details about the suspect have been released.
