Dr. Benjamin S. Carson, Sr., M.D., has been sworn in as the National Advisor for Nutrition, Health, and Housing within the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA). The appointment was announced by U.S. Secretary of Agriculture Brooke L. Rollins, who highlighted Carson’s qualifications to address critical issues facing Americans.

“Dr. Carson’s insight and experience is critical” for advancing policies on nutrition, healthcare, and housing, Rollins stated. She emphasized his role in implementing provisions of the One Big Beautiful Bill and supporting “America First” initiatives. Carson will advise President Trump and Rollins on rural healthcare quality, diet reforms, and housing accessibility, serving as the department’s chief voice on these matters.

Carson, a former secretary of the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, is also known for his work as a neurosurgeon, including groundbreaking procedures like separating conjoined twins. His new role involves collaborating with HHS Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. to advance the MAHA (Make America Healthy Again) agenda. The USDA will oversee efforts to restrict SNAP benefits for junk food purchases and update dietary guidelines to shape public health perceptions.

The announcement underscores Carson’s expanded influence in shaping federal policies on nutrition and rural development under the Trump administration.
