Rep. Haley Stevens (D-MI) announced she would introduce articles of impeachment against Health and Human Services (HHS) Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr., citing his policies as a threat to public health. “Health care chaos. Reckless cuts. Rising costs. Michiganders and families across the country are paying the price for RFK Jr.’s agenda. Enough is enough,” Stevens stated.

Stevens, a staunch critic of Kennedy, has repeatedly called for his removal, accusing him of undermining medical research and prioritizing ideological agendas over scientific evidence. She highlighted recent decisions, including cuts to pediatric cancer funding and vaccine initiatives, as examples of his incompetence. “Michiganders are tired of politicians who chase attention and ignore real problems,” Stevens said in a statement Sept. 15.

The impeachment effort follows growing backlash against federal health policies, including controversial recommendations on childhood vaccination schedules and President Trump’s advice to pregnant women to avoid Tylenol. Stevens condemned Kennedy’s leadership as a direct threat to public welfare. “His contempt for science, the constant spreading of conspiracy theories, and his complete disregard for the thousands of research hours spent by America’s top doctors and experts is unprecedented, reckless, and dangerous,” she said.

Stevens described Kennedy as a “quack” unfit to lead HHS, vowing to hold him accountable. While the impeachment call faces significant political hurdles due to Republican control of Congress, Stevens aims to amplify pressure on the health secretary. The move comes as she campaigns for a U.S. Senate seat in Michigan.
