Federal agents were violently attacked during operations in Chicago on Tuesday, as a group of individuals ambushed them with nearly a dozen vehicles. The incident occurred in Broadview, Illinois, where Border Patrol personnel were conducting duties under the Department of Homeland Security’s (DHS) “Operation Midway Blitz.”
Agents found their vehicles trapped and unable to move for an extended period, forcing them to exit their cars and confront the attackers on foot. DHS Secretary Kristi Noem confirmed the attack via social media, stating that reinforcements were en route. She noted that one of the assailants was armed with a “semi-automatic weapon,” which led to agents firing in self-defense.
A DHS spokesperson reported that the armed individual was struck but sustained non-life-threatening injuries. The incident unfolded during what officials described as a “routine” patrol, though tensions had been escalating in the area due to ongoing protests against immigration enforcement.
Tricia McLaughlin, DHS Assistant Secretary, detailed the confrontation, stating agents were “rammed by vehicles and boxed in by 10 cars.” She emphasized that one of the drivers involved was armed and that federal officers fired defensive shots at an “armed U.S. citizen.” The woman allegedly targeted agents online prior to the attack, with her name appearing in a Customs and Border Patrol intelligence bulletin for threatening messages like “Hey to all my gang let’s fuck those motherfuckers up, don’t let them take anyone.”
McLaughlin criticized local authorities, stating that Chicago Police Department officers left the scene instead of aiding federal agents. She added that a growing crowd required the deployment of special operations to secure the area. Meanwhile, conflicting reports emerged about how the injured woman was transported to a hospital—some sources claimed she drove herself, while others cited Chicago Fire Department involvement.
The incident highlights escalating tensions surrounding immigration enforcement in the region, with federal officials warning of increasing threats against their personnel. DHS reiterated its commitment to addressing “criminal illegal aliens” in Chicago, citing local sanctuary policies as a factor in the unrest.
